Reef Illuminations is a new line of light fixtures from industry stalwart IceCap and Reef Buidlers is proud to bring you exclusive first look at the IceCap’s first full lighting fixture. Aside from the now mundane halide and T5 combo, the Reef Illumination series steps it up a notch by bringing the actinic LED assist to it’s lighting game, a trick which it also performs on the T5 fixtures as well. We’ve been saying it for years that LED lights will penetrate the aquarium lighting market first through the “accessory” lighting segment either by actinic or ripple-lighting. We’ve been using Mag Lights, SunBrites and LED Spotlights for a while now and we can tell you that even as a long time worshipper of the true Actinic O3 lamps, there is just no way to beat the pure fluorescence of the blue LED lights. Innards aside, we’re liking the brushed aluminum finish and the efficient use of space: these fixtures seem to be blessed with a small footprint. Details on the Reef Illuminations are scant: no word on pricing, or whether the fluorescent form factor LED lamps run on their own  AC current circuit like the SunBrites but we can expect to learn more in less than a week at MACNA in New Jersey.

Looks like they replicated the outer design from the SolarMax fixtures!!! Couldn’t look any more similar.

Looks pretty sweet, I like that idea of mixing up the MH bulbs, the T5s and the LEDs. Curious to know how powerful those LEDs are if they can even compete with even the T5s or if they’re primarily that pre-dawn/post-dusk mood lighting. Since my Actinics while they don’t overpower when my other bulbs are on they definitely are noticeable with them on.

I would love to switch over to LED they are a lot more cost effective when it comes down to the utility bills just wish the initial cost was not so high. Would love to be a tester.
