We’ve seen our fair share of aquarium controller systems for reef tanks. These controllers are usually for our own personal home systems and not anything done on a grand scale. We knew about the ProFilux Outdoor controller for a while now, but we weren’t aware of the full capabilities of this new controller. Take a look at what the ProFilux Outdoor is running a large fish holding system, either for researching purposes, wholesaler or local fish store. The holding tanks are actually done by Aquarius Fish systems which design and built different fish holding systems. The neatness of this system has us wanting one for our own use, we just need to find someone who will keep it stocked with some of the rarest fish in the world. More pictures after the break.

So what’s special about this controller? Judging by the picture it has some peristaltic pumps inside of it (I’m guessing that’s what the tubing is for), and the person has 3 probes and a plug into it? Unless I’m missing something it looks like it might be under utilized, so lets see/hear some specs on what it really can do! I mean you wouldn’t buy an Neptune Apex or a RKE if all you wanted to do was turn your lights on and off would you?
Ack nevermind, didn’t even realize the hyperlink inside the article.
Awww. It’s so cute and tiny . . . Geesh! For the record I run a Profilux Standalone doser and I appreciate that the controllers are upgradeable but even the standard hobby ones just have a poor ergonomic design when it comes to fitting in the snug confines of a typical aquarium stand. I’d buy a Profilux in a heartbeat if the darn thing was smaller. But, again, I give them kudos for their upgradeability.
Mike, email me at sales@aqua-digital.com if you want to see what a real quality built machine looks lie i can give you a guided tour of the inner workings.
Lets not make any missconceptions here this is a dedicated all in one controller built specifically for the commercial market where 100% reliablity is required at all times without question, just like any GHL ProfiLux controller. However its functionality has captured the hobbyist market and has proven a success within our own reef market very quickly.
The ProfiLux outdoor is not here to compete with the average joe blow USA unit, instead sold wihtin a completely seperate market arena.
If your looking for the highest end aquatic controller for your reef system where reliability matters to you and you dont want to have to throw it away in two years when the companies technology moves one then look at the profilux 3 launching in 6-8 weeks. Functionality list can be found on reefbuilders, along with further info on the Profilux 3.
But back to the Outdoors, this is a unique controller for a unique market that also has captured the attention of the home reefer.
Hi Andrew
Thanks for your comments. We appreciate constuctive feedback.
The ProfiLux has always been larger due to the technology that is packed inside of them, not sure if you have seen the inner workings but here is a link to the ProfiLux3.

As you can see there is a lot of techonology packed in there built in a real bullet proof manner, nothing crammed in, still leaving heaps of expansion.
So as you can see GHL are willing to show you where your money goes and what makes them some renowned for amazing reliability.
The other argumernt is GHL try to keep as much as possible in one box so you are not left with an expanse of cables leading to seperate modules, is this concept is very out dated now? First being launched by aquatronica and then seen eleswhere other than of course GHL. surely having a single head unit and then a trail of small boxes leaves nothing for future expansion or upgrades?? Making the client throw away their controller when the company moves on in a few years, please correct me if i am wrong can head units be upgraded by the client when the technology hardware (not software)moves on??.
However with the GHL box design this leaves masses of room for growth and a controller you can just update instead of religating to recycling.
The ProfiLux 3 will also have an exansion box which you can fill with expansion cards and put where ever you like due to the massive 400 ft cabale bus system.
The ProfiLux 3 will also have a head unit but it will be touch screen ,multi functional basically a PC behind a touch screen making the unit even more powerful.
No GHL will never win the price war game either and they have no intend to the price is what it is due to what you get.
Phew off my soap box now time for lunch
AGH this is what i was looking for – the Outdoor brochure (PDF download)

Thanks for the info Michael, seems the big selling point is that it’s water proof/resistant, where you could have thousands of gallons of water (and the humidity to match) this most likely is a nice feature by itself.
Also better watch out come December, FTC rules about blogs and the like also applies to those replying to blogs I’m guessing
Firstly i am the distributor so it is my duty to promote accurately any information that the consumer my feel is of interest (focus on accurate)
And secondly we are in Canada wahooo
Oops pressed post – I think yes the biggest feature here is its humidity resistance, this will lend itself to quite a few applications
Recently one of North Americas leading Hydroponic companies signed to the profilux outdoors for this reason.
Wow looks like this one has some potentials, would be interesting to see how it can apply to a retail / wholesale environment
