The “My Miami” chalice. How much would you pay for the above mother colony? You know where we’re going with this don’t you? This is a ” My Miami Chalice” coral that is being sold up on eBay as a frag You don’t actually get the full mother chalice, just a frag. And a frag of this colony is selling for over $1,800 up on eBay. The auction is being sponsored by World Wide Corals who carries a nice selection of corals at their retail store in Orlando, Florida. We will admit, it is a beautiful coral, hit up the link to see a picture of the frag itself.

I just dont get the fascination with Chalices. Sure, some of them are cool looking, but not nearly as nice as the top tier SPS or acan’s out there. As for the price, it doesn’t really bother me as I know the market will dictate the price. If someone wants to spend $1800 for a coral then more power to them. The only downside is that it will price many reefers out of the market. Those of us not willing to spend the big bucks on chalices will just have to wait until next year, when a “new” coral becomes “hot”, driving down the cost of the chalices.

That is NOT a mother colony. It is a frag, no matter how many times the n00bs tell you it can be cut down to a single corallite. A mother colony should always be a two-handed piece of coral.

I want to put some blame on WWC trying to gouge the market but in all fairness they started the price at 99 cents! Damn stupid people bidding are the ones turning this into an outrageously high priced piece.

However I can still put some blame on WWC for the marketing of it… “This is one of the most rarest chalices in captivity”

Its alright, let them bid for their eye, then when a bunch of similar colored ones come in and flood the market we can always have the person who paid nearly 2 grand for it claim how his is a lineage piece and all that other garbage.

wow…$1800 for a single eye…and they don’t even throw in free shipping…that’s insane.

I doubt these tanks you’re curious about even have any kind of back ups in case of extended power outage ;)

more power to them for getting such a response in this economy. It shows some people still have money to burn on this hobby :)

I think this auction is being misunderstood by the bidders. That or someone is wayyyy to addicted to corals which are more common than they realize.

Why such hate. 2000.00 to you or me may be a lot but to others its not. Who cares it seems the fact we cant all aford it is the only real reason for the negative comments. Some drive a Kia others BMW other lamborgini not everything needs to be priced bought or sold for the masses

regardless of their understanding/miss understanding Jake, they still have the money to fork out for it. To us that count on this hobby to earn a living, it’s a positive sign :) No hate from me :D

Thats a joke. $1800 for that chalice is just stupid. I paid $110 for a 3 eye frag of Tyree Pink Watermelon from the original source and its WAY nicer looking than that could ever be. But, as already said, if someone is willing to pay it then I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I hope the buyer is in Alaska and has no other option.

Ok so I looked at the bid history. They are all X***X and all but 1 has less than 50 feedbacks. Sounds to me like someone is blowing their own horn.

The bid is a fake, ebay has full of them, don’t believe it.

Ok so ebay hides bidder info. Thus the X***X in the bid history. I still say it’s BS. Gonzo has these on his site for $100/eye. I found bunches for under $200.

Wow… I love how this mediocre looking coral got EVERYONE talking! I’ve seen this coral in person at Macna, and to be honest… it’s nice, but DEFINATLY not $2,000+ nice. A lot of people say “It’s not his fault, he started the bidding at $0.99″- well, those people fail to realize that the seller ever-so-coincedentally hyped it up on seven different forums.

+1 to the comment about Hugo/Tyree’s Watermelon. Can’t WAIT for this stupid trend to be over! :D
