The KR92 EcoLamp LED light fixture from Hong Kong is just the latest unreleased (in the US) product that RB has groped for the benefit of our readers. The KR92 is a decent LED light fixture we reported months ago but so far this product is only available by ordering from the parent company in Hong Kong. Like so many of the shoddily built chinese LED products, we had reservations about what the KR92 would look like but the fixture is built like a shick brithouse; the entire fixture is one big aluminum heatsink with well seated LED strips that sit nice and flush with the exterior and a low profile display that appears to be splashproof. The 150 watts of on-board LED power in the 36″ unit bring two things to mind: first is that it is a lot of LED light and two, what is the point of using 150 watts of LED when you could use 156 watts of T5 lighting and get equal or greater light output but with at a fraction of the initial investment? However, Eco-Lamps is claiming that this fixture should match the light output of a 250 metal halide pendant but we hope that means a similar light intensity across the whole 36″/90cm length. Although we loved the appearance and build of the fixture in person, the KR92 unit we handled shipped with a 220v driver so we were not able to see just how much punch this light makes. The KR92 comes in a black or silver finish and the 150 watt, 36″ model runs US$1247 while the 200 watt, 48″ iteration is US$2012, prices before shipping. For more details, see our previous coverage of the KR91 and KR92 lamps and follow the break for many more pics of the 48″ KR92.

Getting LED’s in the range of sane prices now.

Not a bad deal if your a long term hobbyist. Bulb and energy saving might actually make sense . Just would need more par/lux info to make an informed decision.

Kinda hard to get PAR values when we couldnt even plug the thing in ;-) , we’ll get some values from the owner of this light soon enough.

Hmmmm…. looks like these are 1 watt LEDS so probably not as much PAR as a 250W MH. Maybe similar to 150W MH with less heat but similar energy consumption?

Do you think these will complete with AqualIllumination’s LED fixtures?

Just went through the comparison of KR92-24 to a 400w MH. The result is very interesting.

The results in detail can be found here

The KR92 is actualy brighter, has a better PAR rating, and better penitration than a 250wt MH. I have put one of these up against an Arcadia 4 twin 250wt MH, and the KR92 won hands down.
The KR91 is made up with lots of 1wt LED’s and is about the same as running 4x T5’s of the same size. the KR92 is made up with lots of 3wt LED’s, Thus is much brighter.
I Hve run the KR91 for past 6months now, with a mix of Soft corals, LPS and SPS including Acro’s, and they have all done realy well.
I could only say how good these are, you would need to see for your selves. you be
    Very impressed.
Expensive to buy to start, but very cheap to run. Arcadia 4 Twin 250wt costs £850 uses about 600wts power, and needs new bulbs every 6months. so costs about £600-£700 per year to run. KR91-48″ uses 120wts, no bulbs, costs bout £100 (or less) to run per year. the K92-48″ uses 200wts, no bulbs, so costs under £200 per year to run.
also, all the heat is radiated away from the tank, so unlike MH dose not fry your tank.
I know where my money is going!!
