The DSPS tank by Chingchai Uekrongtham is a 1200 gallon reef aquarium which is a spotlight on many of the most modern features that are available to aquarists today. Not only does Chingchai’s aquarium employ the cutting edge in technology, Mr. Uekrongtham also has a good eye for rare and unique livestock: Gemmatum tang, interrupta angelfish, resplendens angelfish, and more choice Acro and LPS corals than you can shake a stick polyp at. We first reported on this aquarium build a couple of weeks ago, shortly after the tank was established with a full walkthrough of the filtration system and satellite aquariums. Now that the aquarium is much more fully stocked, we can all really appreciate where this reef will be going over the next couple of years. We have to give Mr. Uekrongtham a huge nod for his gravity-defying aquascaping: the much reduced use of live rock breaks up the overall look into several bommies and spires which are absolutely coral covered giving the fish and viewer’s eyes all manner of swimthroughs to follow. The reduced volume of the reefscape will also encourage much better water flow as it appears that the water outlets are arranged to produce a gyre flow pattern through mass water movement. We’ll be keeping a close eye on this instantly iconic reef and huge thanks to Chingchai Uekrongtham for sharing another HD video of his fantastic setup.

If you go over to R.C. he has his build thread in the Large Reef Tank sub-forum, you can see the steps how “he” built those reef structures.

And again, it’s closer to 1000g due to the thickness of the acrylic ;)

Awesome tank,, Odd someone could aquascape so wonderfully, yet forget to paint the back to hide all those ugly pumps and plumbing. Goes to show rock work can make or break a tank.

Yeah it for sure needs a background, but this tank is new so maybe that will come later. Also I don’t know about having a garibaldi damsel in there… just doesn’t seem like the right environment for it. I also wonder how long those parvulus will last? Jake I know you have that vid of the greenwich aquaria tank with parvulus in it. Any update on that, were those fish recent additions at the time or had they been in there a while? and are they still alive?

Ack. The more I read his RC thread, the more respect I lose. Adding 20 Ventralis anthias without so much as a thought of QT or treatment. The RC thread in particular is disgusting. If you dont bow down and act as if hes the messiah, you get criticized and badgered (by admins apparently, too). Heaven forbid someone discuss a BETTER way to do something. That tank is so young, and will feel some growing pains the way hes charging forward. I had to laugh at his “carmabi”, which is just a rubre, too.

And……he lost most, if not all the fish to velvet. It astounds me the line of people to “get on their knees” when such foolish actions were evident.
