Amphiprion latifasciatus, the Madagascar Anemonefish is a rare species from the western Indian Ocean that recently hit in Japan. Two pairs of Ampiprion latifasciatus were successfully imported: one pair is for B-Box Aquarium and other pair is for Namamugi Kaisuigyo Center. According to the B-Box Aquarium who got a pair of Madagascar Anemonefish, some of wholesale companies tried to import fish from Madagascar, but it never happened. This shipment from Madagascar is the 1st trial to import fish to Japan, so some people made so much efforts and opened the new door to import some rare fish. The pictures above from B-Box Aquarium showed Male and Female specimens of the Madagascar Anemonefish. Some of Anemonefish enthusiast in the U.S. may be waiting for this fish for a long time. We hope that Amphiprion latifasciatus and other rare Madagascar reef fish are imported to the U.S. soon.

The last hobbyist attempt to bring them in cost around $2000 each, let’s hope with industrial effort, it will cost substantially less than that.
Hopefully such fish can get into the hands of breeders so we can work at establishing the genetic diversity in captivity, should we ever lose it in the wild. Such a species is far more interesting and valuable to me than any Wyoming White or Platinum Perc…I hope hobbyists grow in their appreciately for the NATURAL diversity we already have and too rarely get to enjoy.
